John Petrucci

John Petrucci was born on Long Island, New York on July 12, 1967. He began to play the guitar at the age of 12. He later took a music theory class in high school, and went on to study jazz composition and harmony at Berklee College.

It was in college that he teamed up with Mike Portnoy and longtime friend John Myung to start the band Majesty, which later turned into Dream Theater.

Some of his influences were Randy Rhoads, and SRV. Later, as he searched for more of a technical challenge, he began to be influenced by such greats as Steve Morse and Joe Satriani.

John recorded 7 albums with Dream Theater, and has also done side projects such as Liquid Tension Experiment, Age of Impact, and has also worked on a Sega Saturn game called Necronomicon.

In 2001 he was invited to play on the G3 tour with Satriani and Vai.
