Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain was born on February 20, 1967 in a small town close to Seattle, Washington. Cobain was a happy child, but was hyperactive. When he was 7, his parents divorced. He took it very hard and was extremely hard to live with, so his parents sent him to live with relatives. Growing up, he listened to bands such as The Monkees and The Beatles, but later listened to bands such as Black Sabbath and the Sex Pistols. When he was 14, he bought his first guitar and began to experiment with different musical styles.

His musical success began when he was in his 20's with the band Nirvana. The band started with Cobain as lead singer and guitarist, and Krist Novaselic on bass. After several auditions, they took on Dave Grohl as their drummer.

In 1986, they released their first album, Bleach. They toured extensively throughout the US, and went to England for their first international concert.

In 1991, the band signed with Geffen Records and produced their second album, Nevermind. The band received rave reviews on this album with songs such as Come as You Are, and Smells Like Teen Spirit. Their popularity soared after appearing on MTV's Headbanger's Ball and NBC's Saturday Night Live.

Cobain found the success of the band a little intimidating, and liked the intimate setting of small night clubs. The lure of the money was what made him continue to do large concerts and tours.

Throughout the early 90's Cobain was very heavily into drugs such as morphine and heroin. In 1992, he married Courtney Love and had a daughter. It seemed to slow down his drug use a bit. He continued with the band and released Insecticide.

In 1993, Cobain overdosed on heroin. He went into rehab, but left without completing the program. The band released their next and last studio album, Utero.

In 1994, the band was on MTV's Unplugged, and played a concert in Munich. One week after the concert, Cobain was hospitalized and fell into a coma. He woke up, and left the hospital voluntarily, but was reported missing. He was found 3 days later in his house. He was dead of a shotgun wound to the head.
